Daddy, I want and need you to!
Dads play a crucial role in their baby’s development and well-being from the moment they are born. Here are some positive reasons for dads to be involved with their baby from birth:
- Bonding: Being present and attentive during the birth and the early days of life helps dads form a strong emotional connection with their baby. This bond can last a lifetime and make dads more confident and responsive as parents.
- Support: Dads can provide practical and emotional support to their partners, who may be exhausted, overwhelmed or experiencing postnatal depression. Dads can help with feeding, changing, bathing and soothing the baby, as well as taking care of household chores and other children.
- Learning: Dads can learn a lot from their baby, such as their cues, preferences, personality and needs. Dads can also teach their baby new skills, such as language, motor and social skills, through play and interaction.
- Health: Dads who are involved with their baby from birth tend to have better physical and mental health than those who are not. They are less likely to smoke, drink or engage in risky behaviors, and more likely to exercise, eat well and seek medical help when needed. They also experience lower levels of stress, anxiety and depression, and higher levels of happiness and satisfaction.
- Role model: Dads who are involved with their baby from birth set a positive example for their child and their family. They show their baby that they are loved, valued and respected, and that dads can be nurturing, caring and responsible. They also influence their baby’s future relationships, expectations and aspirations.
